The NFL season has begun in exciting fashion and some new players have jumped onto the radar screens of many fantasy football players. The list of week two waiver wire pickups is a long one for owners who need some new talent, especially to cover up for injuries, but here are some of the top guys to grab.
The competition is sure to be strong for many of these players so be sure to keep an eye on the player lists and make your claims ASAP.
The top pickups for week two so far that you need to know about:
Cadillac Williams- The Rams running back had 91 yards on 18 carries and was mostly overlooked because he backs up Steven Jackson. Give him a shot yet again now that he's healthy.
Danny Woodhead- Anyone in the potent New England offense is worth a pick up and Woodhead had about 70 yards rushing while still being a passing game option. He might be hard to find but he's worth it if he's on the waiver wire still.
Dexter McCluster- Not a great running back by any means but he'll be involved in the passing and running game all year like Woodhead. Plus the Chiefs figure to be down a lot leading to more passing game opportunities.
Cam Newton- Yeah, he's a risky play most weeks. But if the light goes on and he "gets it" by midseason as a rookie, his combination with Steve Smith could be too good to pass up in a Mike Vick-DeSean Jackson kind of way, making him a decent backup to have if you have that luxury on your fantasy team.
Chad Henne- He put up 400+ yards on the Pats, mainly because the Dolphins had no choice. He will have a solid year now that he has more control over the offense. And if Daniel Thomas isn't the answer at RB when he comes back (a rookie), Henne will have no choice but to throw 40+ times a game.
Aaron Hernandez- With an owner rate of just 36% in ESPN leagues, Hernandez is criminally low on the charts in that department. Even with Rob Gronkowski stealing catches, he should put up 40-50 and about 10 TD's for New England.
Scott Chandler- The 6'7 former Iowa tight end is a huge target for the Bills and the top TE scorer in week one. The Bills have a strong passing attack but need a red zone threat; he could be it although his production will drop a bit from his strong week one effort.
These are some of the top fantasy football waiver wire pickups for week two. Some are big names while others simply burst onto the scene and others are here on potential as much as anything else. Check them out and good luck this season.
