This game is free, and offers two versions. In one version, you compete with box office earnings alone. The other version incorporates box office earnings, per theater average, weeks in box office top 5, and user review scores from IMDb.com into competition.
Once you've decided which version of Fantasy Moguls you'd like to play, you will have to pick a season next. (If you're too far into one season you'll have to play the next one.) Once your season is set, it's time to create a studio. You'll name your studio and be given a "budget" to buy movies.
Fill your slate with real movies, and each Tuesday, when box office earnings are confirmed, the data will be updated for you. Data will be displayed in a chart that includes when a film opened, and how much it has earned total versus weekend earnings.
You'll also be able to compare actual earnings with projected earnings, so you can gage whether you chose wisely when filling your roster. For example, as I write this, my studio earnings are at $332.30 million, and my estimated total is $379.70 million. That doesn't include the current weekend's earnings or three movies which haven't been released yet - not too shabby for a first timer.
Now, to make Fantasy Moguls more fun, you can create leagues. The leagues can be public or private and you will be able to see how you rank within your league. Of course, leagues are optional but they add to the competitiveness.
Fantasy Moguls offers more than picking a slate of movies and sitting back to see how they do. There are message boards, which give advice on running your studio, user polls, video clips, and competitions for extra points. You can also promote on Facebook or your website/blog with RSS feeds.
Fantasy Moguls is a great game for the movie fiend in all of us - we get to prove we can run a better studio than *****. And if we completely bungle things, we don't have anyone to answer to. Best of all, it's free and requires hardly any time once you've got things going.
