Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Paranormal Backgrounds for MySpace

Rhetta Akamatsu
Everybody wants to make their MySpace reflect their personality and interests. If you're interested in fantasy, Sci-fi, or the paranormal, here are some places to find great MySpace backgrounds. Just remember, don't make your background too busy, or no one will be able to read your page. Make sure the background doesn't make your page load too slow, and be careful picking your font, so that the words will show up against the background. No matter how gorgeous it is, it's not good if no one can read it!

One more word of caution: Make sure you have anti-virus software before you use any site for backgrounds, and read the terms of usage to make sure your privacy is protected.

CodeMyLayout (codemylayout.com) has page after page of possible layouts that wuld fit the fantasy, Sci-Fi, or paranormal genres. Look under fantasy, dark, emo, and skulls in particular for bold, daring, dark, and/or beautiful artistic statements for your space. You've got to love a website where "Skulls" gets its own section.

WishaFriend.com has big, bold graphic dragons, masks, warriors, and devils, if you really want to make a statement. It's not a large collection, but it's distinctive.

Funmunch.com offers really lovely fantasy themes, including abstract designs, fairies, and unicorns. They also have stars, metallic, dark, and "scary" backgrounds. The "scary" ones aren't; they are just skulls of various kinds, and might do well for paranormal themes.

Satisfaction.com has gorgeous images, although they only have 8 to offer in this genre. Most of them include poetry and images, and the themes are fairies, mermaids, and the like, but these are not child-like or cutesy images; they are real and grown-up art. They also have a "graveyard hand" theme in their Halloween section that would do for a darker sort of paranormal site, as well. Look beyond the "fantasy" section, and you will find more in the "cool" layouts, especially some goth looks if that's your brand of fantasy.

Freecodesource.com has an enormous collection of backgrounds, including 63 pages of fantasy and an awesome "splatter" section which would be great for Sci-Fi, Horror, or paranormal.

Critical Layouts (criticallayouts.com) has amazing Sci-Fi backgrounds with incredible artwork. You have to see this art to understand how breathtaking it could make your page. This is one of those sites when you have to make sure your text is going to show up on your gorgeous page, though.

If you're a horror filmmaker or writer or you're just really into the genre, then Layouts4MySpace has got some truly disturbing backgrounds you should love, and that will really send a shock through your viewers.

So, go ahead and hit the Internet and get ready to indulge your taste for fantasy, Sci-Fi, and the paranormal on MySpace, no matter how dark or light your taste may be. Let the world see a bit more of who you are. There's a design that's perfect for you waiting on one of these great sites!
