Farewell Mother

Charlotte Kuchinsky

Your circle of life has ended

And it was time for you to go.

Still, the child inside us struggles

Incapable of letting go.

We'll no longer hear your laughter

Nor once again feel your soft touch.

We're paralyzed in this moment

Because we each miss you so much,

But as adults we understand

That all your pain is at last gone.

You've joined others who love you too.

It falls to us to carry on.

Your daughters keep your legacy

Of love and of inspiration;

We'll show our strength and our courage

With no hint of desperation.

You're the willow where we rested.

You brought us shelter from life's storm.

You taught us to bend but not break

When others sought to do us harm.

You led us by your example

With your dignity and pure grace.

As long as any of us lives

The world will not forget your place.

You can rest, beloved Mother.

Your tough job here on Earth is done.

And we'll take comfort in knowing

You rest in the arms of the Son.
