Farm Fresh Produce and More in Hollywood Florida ... All Season Long

For the longest time, residents had no real source of farm fresh vegetables and fruits other than random road side stands and "mom and pop" vendors at local flea markets. Most people purchased their fruits and vegetables pre-packaged at the local supermarket chains. All that changed just a few months ago when a giant farmers market suddenly opened in Hollywood.

Surprisingly, without any fuss or fanfare and very little advertising, a giant farmers market just sprung up on the fringes of a quiet residential community. It's the Hollywood areas first farmers market ... and it's gaining in popularity.

The Yellow Green Farmers Market is a giant partially open-air warehouse facility with over 300 vendors. It offers an incredible selection of fresh produce, dairy, ethnic foods and produce, herbs and spices, pasta, grains, coffee and teas, fruits and nuts, fresh fruit jellies and jams, as well as a wide variety of baked goods.

More than just a farmers market, Yellow Green is a gourmet paradise that also sells fresh locally caught seafood including red snapper and yellow tail snapper, as well as stone crabs, lobster shrimp and other fresh fish. Several vendors offer a fine selection of imported and regional wines as well. Other gourmet delicacies include fresh cheeses including Italian mozzarelas, pates, dips, infused oils, humus, fresh olives, Amish butter and quail eggs.

If you're into a "natural" or "organic" lifestyle, you can also find organic produce and other food products, "cage-free" range eggs, local "raw" honey, gluten free, wheat free and dairy free products. A number of vendors also sell natural and vegan soaps, shea butter, natural skin care products and cosmetics for adults and babies. You can even find pet organic treats for your dogs, cats and birds.

The market also has a number of eateries offering a diverse selection of American and ethnic foods you can either eat there or take home. You'll find Mexican and Latin foods, Sushi, Oriental cuisine, creps. grilled meats and fish, kabobs, sandwiches, wraps and of course hamburgers and hotdogs. Several natural juice bars also offer fresh juices, smoothies and other refreshing drinks. There's also ice cream, cotton candy ad other treats kids will enjoy as well.

Gardening enthusiasts and people who like to grow their own produce will find a nice selection of fruit trees, herbs, plants and seeds as well as orchids, flowers and other gardening supplies.

Although, you'll find mostly fresh food items, there are also booths where vendors sell jewelry, clothing, art and imported gifts ... all mostly made from natural products.

It's fun and festive atmosphere make it a great place to take the kids shopping too. In addition to the food and goodies, there are various activities and events designed to keep the kids from yelling "Mommy I want to go home". These include painting, balloon art, other arts and crafts as well as impromptu seasonal activities.

The price range varies from vendor to vendor. Generally, you'll find good value on all the food products sold. Some products are available at low prices. However, you can expect to pay a little more for certified "organic" products than you would for their "non-organic" counter parts

The Yellow Green Farmers Market is located at 1940 North 30th Road, just off Taft Street ... a few blocks south of the I-95 Sheridan Street exit . It's open every Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. yo 4:00 p., rain or shine. There's lots of free parking in a large off-street lot and valet parking as well.
