Farmer or Fighting the Frontier

The Most Popular Games of Facebook

Shirley Hill
Facebook is the fastest growing social network, beating out both MySpace and Twitter in population and popularity. There is one advantage that makes Facebook #1 and that is the multitude of games they offer. After all, you just can't talk to your old high school buddies forever, now can you?

Since November 2010, the top games, according to InsideSocialGames.com, are:

Farmville

Like anyone who had ever perused the pages of Facebook had to guess! The farming game has a whopping 56 million active users. The slump in users playing the social network games due to Facebook's changes hasn't lowered this game's status in the rankings.

Farmville offers its players many new options such as seasonal decorations, variety of farm and non-farm animals (poncho llama and October's night mare are just two), new machinery (purple combine anyone?), co-op farming, various gift collecting and several building options that give the farmer new 'stuff' to play with.

Texas Hold 'Em Poker

This game fills up a person's 'I'm-so-bored' time with a couple of rounds of America's new favorite past time. Zynga's card game gets a full house with 36.2 million card sharks.

Frontierville

Frontierville is the new kid on the block and has become one of the favorites as well with its 29.1 million frontiersmen and women. This Wild West adventure has challenges as well as the building-your-house/ garden options.

Mafia Wars

This gangsta' game is still a favorite although it has lost users in the past months. 'Mafia Wars' directs its players by use of dashboard which keeps track of energy, jobs and other options like buying that all popular gangster pet, an elephant! You get to fight, kill, and destroy. What more could you ask for?

Café World

Care for a snack? Possibly even a full course dinner? Then 'Café World' is the place for you. You get to decorate your own restaurant, make meals, have your Facebook friends become your waiters and even clean the stovetops...it's just a mouse click away! Your friends send you gifts of food and your menu grows and grows. Dang, I'm getting kind of hungry now....

Quiz Planet

This is actually an app and not a game; the only one of its kind on the Top 10. If you're really into making and taking quizzes then this would be your cup of tea!

Treasure Isle

This is also one of the newer games on Facebook's agenda. During the short period of time that it has been on the social site the island game has gained over 14 million users and a #7 ranking.

Pet Society

This is one of Playfish's most popular games and has 12.3 million entranced by its cute animals and building the colorfully cute inhabitants happy societies to live in. Like other games you can earn money, buy clothes and furniture but you also go fishing and race in the stadium!

Millionaire City

11.9 million luxurious members love this game. Most of the reviews state that it is very addicting. This game is all about luxury and living the high life.

Mindjolt Games

This game is actually many games compiled for your lackluster day-at- work blues. You can see what your friends are playing and compile your own list for their amusement. They have quite a variety as well from solitaire to rally races to saving a leprechaun.

As you can see, there is something for everyone in the land of Facebook games. They are quite family-friendly and an excellent way to just waste time during lunch breaks or those 'I am so bored' moments while surfing the internet. If you haven't tried Facebook yet, their games might be a reason to visit. Who knows, you might just find your old high school sweetheart.
