Farmers Markets in Detroit

RONYAE
Eastern Market has been a very important part of Detroit's history for more than 160 years. During the early years of the Eastern Market, shoppers could buy the freshest fruits, vegetables, meats and other farm-raised goods on the weekends and at a very reasonable price.

Now, the Eastern Market holds shops and stalls for almost anything: hardwares, supply stores and more. Located near downtown Detroit, the Eastern Market was named the Detroit's Farmer Market, starting in the Cadillac Square and up to east of Woodward. After nestling in it's present day location off Gratiot, the name changed to the Eastern Market; thus giving way to numerous occasions and events such as the annual Flower Day and the popular Oktoberfest held in, early October. Also, EMMA's Annual International Gospelfest, the Al-Hambra Parade along Russell Street, the annual Harvest Fest in the fall, and various special sales and other types of events all keep Detroiters piling up and visiting the Markets throughout the year.

An added bonus to shopping at the present day location for the Eastern Market is that the prices for the produce is still very reasonable. The prices of the meats and seafood are still the catch of the day, and if you go during a special sales event, you will save more than a buck or two!

The Eastern Market is open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m - 5 p.m. The market is closed on Sunday except for special events.

Another addition to fresh farmers' delights would be the upcoming Farmer's Market in the Rosedale area of Detroit. Located in the parking lot of Bushnell Congregational Church at 15000 Southfield Road (just south of the Fenkell, Grand River, & Southfield intersection), off the northbound service drive, the Farmer's Market in Rosedale will be offering locally grown fruits and vegetables starting June 4, 2009.

Also available at the Rosedale Farmer's Market will be beautiful flowers; everything to bring this season to a head! No matter what side of town you are on in the metro Detroit area, you'll have plenty to choose from if you are in search of fresh, farm-raised and locally grown fruits, vegetables and produce.

Although the hours of operation have not been scheduled for the Rosedale Farmer's Market, there is a possibility of keeping up with the grand opening, by clicking on the link provided above.

Either way, you have a vast amount of variety to choose from, and you can save plenty when you shop from your local farmer's market.
