Farmers Markets in Knox County, OH

Mount Vernon, Fredericktown and Centerburg Host Weekly Farmers Markets

Debbie Henthorn
Fans of local food in Knox County, Ohio have a choice of farmers markets and market days.

Mount Vernon Farmers Market on the Square - Saturday 9 AM until Noon
Knox County's oldest community farmers market fills the Mount Vernon Public Square every Saturday. Farmers Market shoppers can find seasonal produce, maple syrup, baked goods and plants and vegetables from the first Saturday in May until the last Saturday in October.

The Mount Vernon Farmers Market on the Square does not permit resellers and requires all items to be produced within a 25-mile radius of the Square. There are no craft items permitted and while there is no setup fee, all vendors are required to participate in a Quality Assurance Training program sponsored by the Knox County Office of the OSU Extension Service.

There will be one more session of the Quality Assurance Training in 2010 scheduled for June 29 at 7:00 PM at the Extension Service, 1025 Harcourt Road, Mount Vernon.

Troy Cooper is the market manager and he can be reached at 740-397-0401.

Fredericktown Farmers Market - Thursday 3 PM - 6 PM
Celebrating its fourth season, the Fredericktown Farmers Market is a great mid-week market for Knox County residents.

Held on the Fredericktown Village Square, vendors line the sidewalks with seasonal produce and baked goods.

Centerburg Community Market - Saturday 9 AM - 1 PM
The Centerburg Community Market is a new twist on the small farmers market started in the summer of 2007.

In addition to providing a location for area residents to buy fresh local produce and baked goods, craft vendors and local non-profits are welcome to sell their wares. Located on the Green next to Heart of Ohio Do It Best Hardware at the west end of Centerburg on State Route 3/36, there is a $5 space fee.

Market Manager David Faust can be reached at 740-625-6363. Faust has told me that the fee is intended to build a seed-money fund for advertising and will be suspended once that purpose has been met.
