1. Old L.A. Farmer's Market
Location: Ave 57 & Marmion Way, Highland Park, California
When: Every Tuesday, 3:00 PM to sundown
The Old L.A. Famer's Market features farm-fresh foods, hot prepared food to buy, music, and arts and crafts. The market also has a kid's area so your children don't have to be bored and rambunctious while you're shopping for fresh produce. All proceeds from this market go to The North Figueroa Association, which works to improve the Highland Park community.
2. Santa Monica Organic Farmer's Market
Location: Santa Monica, California (4 separate locations)
When: Wednesdays, Sundays, and two locations on Saturdays
The Santa Monica Organic Farme's Market has four separate locations and takes place three days a week. Go to the website to find out exact locations and times. The certified farmer's markets were started in 1978 when the Governor Jerry Brown signed the Direct Marketing Act, allowing farmers in California to sell their products directly to consumers. There are now over 300, including the Santa Monica Organic Farmer's Market. Of great news to many Californian residents is the Santa Monica farmer's market accepts both WIC food stamps and EBT, making fresh, organic food available to more people.
3.West Los Angeles Farmer's Market
Location: 1645 Corinth Avenue, Las Vegas, California
When: Sundays, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The West Los Angeles farmer's market is huge, offering a day of excitement and shopping. There's free parking, and even free Wi-Fi! L.A. Parent voted this farmer's market the Best Family Fun on the Cheap in 2006 for good reason; there's so much to do here, even if you aren't shopping for produce. There's a free kid's crafts table every week at 10:30 am, with the help of donations. There's also kid's days throughout the year, featuring activities and events. The West Los Angeles farmer's market also has live entertainment, crafts and arts for purchase, and delicious hot prepared food.
4. Art District/Little Toyko Farmer's Market
Location: Los Angeles City Hall
When: Thursdays, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The Farmer's Market in Little Tokyo is amazing, with organic produce, flowers, honey, and fresh-made foods such as hummus and Mediterranean. You can also enjoy live music, such as the jazz trio Carl Tassi. When you go, be sure to try plenty of fresh made food and the delicious Californian produce. This farmer's market is sponsored by the Los Angeles River Artists, the Historic Cultural Neighborhood Council, and the Business Association.
