Peaceful Valley Orchards Farm Market has been run by Meredith and Jeremy Compton, both of Hunterdon County, since 2001. The farmers market was basically an apple orchard with a tent where they sold apples. By that fall, they opened their orchards up to the public, allowing them to pick their own apples. Now they have grown in size to include many fruits and vegetables, including pumpkins and even added in a corn maze.

There are many events held at Peaceful Valley Orchards Farm Market, including Strawberry picking on June 6th, where you pick your own strawberries. September 19th apple and pumpkin picking begin.

They have a great variety of apples to pick from, whether grown in their own orchards or brought in from other farms for you to purchase. Some varieties are JerseyMac, McIntosh, Grimes Golden, Golden Delicious, York, Fugi, Granny Smith and more. All their fruits and vegetables are from New Jersey farms. They grow over thirty-five different kinds of crops. You can choose from 40 types of tomatoes and 25 different types of apples and peppers of every kind. This is the benefit from shopping at a farmers market. There are more varieties available than the average supermarket.

Available also are home make soups, sauces and salsa to take out. They have a great bake shop as well. Sugar free pies, which will need to be ordered ahead of time, come in peach, apple, blueberry and cherry. Regular pies include apple brown betty, strawberry, blueberry, pumpkin, apple caramel walnut, lemon blueberry, strawberry rhubarb and apple raspberry.

The Dutch Farmer's Market located on 19 Commerce Street in Flemington, New Jersey is a very popular farmers market in Hunterdon County. The Amish from Pennsylvania own and operate the market. This huge indoor market has meats, fruits, and vegetables available for purchase, as well as home made entrees to take home in addition to a deli area. Baked goods and breads are made daily in all sorts of varieties.

This farmers market is open on weekends only. Their telephone number is 908-806-8476. Although they do not have a website available, you can call for store hours. They are located just off Route 202 in Flemington behind the Shop Rite Plaza. Several times a year they have their famous pig roasts.

The benefit of buying at the Dutch Farmer's Market is that their meats are steroid-hormone free. In addition to bacon, sausage, steaks, etc, they also have cold cuts and salads, and dairy sections.
