Farmers Markets in Sacramento, California

Farmers markets offer some great benefits such as fresh produce, low prices and the feeling of knowing that your purchase has helped a local farmer. The experience of buying your food at a farmers market is much more rewarding than going to the same old supermarket and paying the price as marked which brings me to my next point; haggling. At a farmers market you get to haggle for better prices. Haggling at a farmers market is good way to teach your kids the techniques of negotiation. One other draw to farmers markets is that you get to talk to the people who grew the food so if you want to know any specific information on the production of the food you put into your body a farmers market is a great way of getting that information.

In the Sacramento, California area you can try two options that I am familiar with.

Denio's Farmers Market (Roseville, CA) -This farmers market is located in the auction which does have a $1 admission price. The atmosphere is dirty but charming in a real sort of way. The farmers are stressed and hustle to make a sale which gives you great bargaining power for huge bargains. If you show up later when the farmers are ready to go home you can really hit some values because the farmers might as well get something on the remaining stock as they wouldn't be able to sell their leftovers anyway. As far as talking to the farmers at Denio's in most cases you wouldn't get too far because the farmers do not speak English very well and they are normally very busy. Overall the main draw to Denio's is the huge selection and value of the produce which is a big deal nowadays.

Winding way Farmers Market (Carmichael, CA) - The atmosphere here is much slower and laid back. The produce is fresh and the farmers are available to speak with. This farmers market is much smaller than Denio's with much less competition so prices are much firmer and haggling won't get you as far as it would at Denio's. This farmers market is a tiny area off of Winding way between Marconi and Garfield and can very easily be overlooked. Overall this farmers market is better suited for those concerned with knowing more about their food and are not looking for huge savings.

Between these two very different farmers markets you will get the variety you need and what you are looking for rather it be value or quality.

I can't write this in the third person... I just can't. To do so would make me feel like a douche big enough to accommodate Madonna. My articles are a change of pace from what you can expect anywhere else. M...  View profile
