Farmer's Markets in Savannah, Georgia

Sometimes grocery stores simply cannot provide produce that is quality, fresh or organic. That may be why some Savannah residents turn to one of the many local farmers markets. These markets provide locally grown, deliciously fresh produce as well as a few odds and ends that only a local venue could provide. The following farmers markets are known for quality in the Savannah, Georgia area.

The first worthy mention is not actually a farmers market, but it makes the list due to a well-deserved reputation for fresh, organic produce and quality meats, as well as the sample of their daily brewed coffee. The Fresh Market, located at 5525 Abercorn Street in Savannah, carries produce, fish and meat, flowers, sweets, and baked goods. Despite being a chain of stores, Fresh Market still manages to pack wonderful service and excellent product into every store. The meat and fish department appeals to many customers because the meat does not undergo the radiation that most grocery stores now use on meat. Also, the butcher will grind the meat for customers. Fresh Market is an excellent place to get produce because it is fresh and organic. Fresh Market might not be a farmers market, but it is definitely a notable mention for any Savannah resident or guest seeking quality foods. Starland Market has very limited hours, but that does not deter Savannah residents from visiting Saturday mornings from nine to noon from May until October. Starland Market sells a good deal of locally grown produce that is generally much cheaper than grocery store prices. Like Fresh Market, Starland Market also provides organic foods. This particular farmers market occasionally has entertainment value in the form of musicians and street performers that cater to the crowds during this unique Downtown Savannah shopping experience. To help customers that want to go green, Starland Market provides a small recycling collection surface during the market times. Starland Market is located at 2418 Desoto Avenue in Savannah.

The Savannah State Farmers Market is one of the most well-known because they are open year-round and located at 701 Highway 80, West. This farmers market sells seasonal produce that is locally grown as well as wholesale products. There is also a restaurant located on the premises. The vegetables are usually cheaper than those found in grocery stores in the Savannah area. The Savannah State Farmers Market does not have the same cultural impact as that of Starland Market, but it is still worth stopping by to pick out some fresh vegetables. In the effort to go green, shopping at local farmers markets will likely grow more and more popular. The three locations listed above are three excellent sources of quality produce and other products in the Savannah, Georgia area.
