Fashion Advice: How to Wear a Jumpsuit

Lori Jill Shirley
Ladies, do you need some advice on how to wear a jumpsuit? The disco staple of the 70s is becoming a very hot commodity in modern fashion. Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton have been seen wearing stylish jumpsuits and rompers, and while many women think that only famous celebs can pull off this look, nothing could be further from the truth. Here are some tips for any fashion forward lady on how to wear jumpsuits stylishly.

Although the jumpsuit is throwback to the 70s, do not make the mistake of dressing in head to toe 'disco gear'. In other words, do not wear a pair of clunky, platform shoes and an afro with your jumpsuit. Stick with 2010 trends when you are accessorizing, such as a pair of spiky high heel pumps, a large bangle cuff, and a statement belt. Strappy open toed heels and 'gladiator' sandals also look great with a jumpsuit. For your hair, if you really want to give your jumpsuit an edge, wear it up in a ponytail. This is the 'do favored by the celebs and looks totally cute and fun. Add a pair of large hoop or drop earrings and a clutch style purse and you are good to go!

The neat thing about jumpsuits in 2010, is that they come in so many different styles. You have the full length '70s style' pantsuits, the short 'romper' style, jumpsuits with capri length legs, etc. etc. No matter what style or length you decide to wear, always make sure to belt it with a cinch belt. This will prevent you from looking like a sewage plant worker and looks very stylish to boot. Have fun with your belts by accessorizing with a matching clutch bag and pumps. Don't be afraid to play around with this look. Did you find a to die for capri length jumpsuit in black with pink pinstripes? Accessorize it with a hot pink cinch belt and pumps with a cute fedora. Not sure what to wear with the cute purple rompers? Go with a basic black belt and a pair of black gladiator sandals and gold hoop earrings. Fashion is fun, and with jumpsuits, the possibilities are endless!

Many online stores and boutiques now carry a vast assortment of cute jumpsuits and rompers at very reasonable prices. Stores such as Dillards, Macy's, and my absolute favorite Modcloth, all have a very cute jumpsuit line for spring of 2010. For the vintage loving girl, always check out the jumpsuits they have for sale on ebay, as you will be certain to find authentic ones from the swingin' 70s.

If you need some visuals to go by when you are putting together your outfit, simply buy a popular fashion magazine such as In Style or Vogue, or visit the websites of these magazines and you will see tons of models and actresses wearing this look. Most importantly, walk out the door with confidence in your stylish jumpsuit, as you are a fashionista!
