New York Embraces the Traditional Smoky Color Palette for Fall 2011

The dominant or primary color palette for fall 2011 is full of smoky hues with splashes of jeweled toned colors. Shades of grey and New York's signature color, black, dominate this palette. Charcoal grey and heathered (grey hued) tones of plum, taupe and green set off everything from tailored suits to stunning evening gowns. Splashes of jeweled tones and yes spring's hot color, white, provided a nice contrast to the grey and black notes of the season.

Collections using this palette include Calvin Klein Collection,Badgley Mischka and Donna Karan Collection

The Color Palette No-One Quite expected at New York: Olive/Berry

Olive and berry became the secondary color palette at New York Fashion Week Fall 2011. While the thought of using olive green with berry tones like raspberry may seem a bit odd to a few, but the colors came together beautifully on the runway. This palette contains the primary colors of olive green and raspberry but also contain royal blues, muted yellow, chartreuse, muted hunter greens, fuchsia with greys and browns and yes, orange tones added to the mix. To complement this palette the berry lip and berry tinged eye were used on the beauty end.

Collections using this color palette include Luca Luca, Rebecca Taylor and Anna Sui

The Best Collections Using These Colors

The Donna Karan Collection is fond of using smoky notes for fall 2011 and the fall 2011 season is no different. One of her best uses of the smoky color palette can be found in the suits of the collection. Light smoky greys paired with sheer scarves and matching gloves look elegant and professional for fall.

The dresses from the Luca Luca Collection made the best us of the olive and berry tones of the olive/berry color palette. Medium weight, printed fabrics in dark olive and mulberry caressed the silhouette and float on the runway. Paired with the bright berry lip and bare face, the color palette helped the Luca Luca collection have overall lady-like, romantic feel for fall 2011.

Be on the look out this fall for these colors. You may just want to give the olive/berry palette a chance. However, if you are more traditional in you fashion taste you can't go wrong with the primary smoky palette. Whatever color trend from Fall 2011 you choose, tailor it to your individual style and wear it with confidence.
