Fashion Faux Pas and Styles to Avoid for Fall 2010

Fashion is a nebulous, ever-changing concept. A little foresight will allow you to see into fashion's future, but still, it can be difficult to determine what will not be in fashion. However, fashion faux pas and off-the-mark styles for fall 2010 are common sense.

When deciding on fashion and style, it's most important to ask yourself what colors, styles and designs look best on you. It's great to get fashion ideas from celebrities, but it's more important to focus on your coloring and body type. If you are a healthy size 12 with dark skin and deep brunette hair, don't choose a stick-thin, platinum blond supermodel with porcelain, fair skin as your fashion icon. Conversely, if you are a petite red-head, don't look to the Kardashians for style ideas.

Consider your coloring. Back in the early 90s, it was very popular to 'have your colors done'. This meant that a certified stylist would analyze your personal coloring and make cosmetic, clothing and fashion recommendations based on your skin tone and hair color. Colors don't go in or out of style. How different colors look depends very much on who is wearing them. Deep purple or plum is probably going to look killer on someone with dark skin. These colors will make someone with fair skin look washed out and pale.

Another fashion faux pas for fall 2010 (and indeed any season) is to wear clothing that doesn't fit properly or that you can't move around in comfortably. I saw an attractive, willowy blonde wearing a sweater that covered her bottom, leggings and cute, baby-blue, heeled boots. There was nothing wrong with any part of her fashion ensemble except for the fact that she did not know how to walk in boots with heels. If you are going to wear boots with heels, high-heeled gladiator sandals or any of the other high-heel shoe fashions, for goodness sakes, don't clump around like a goat-legged satyr.

If you are going to wear a tight skirt or short skirt, (and by the way, ultra mini skirts and dresses are not so hot for fall 2010,) at least wear a skirt or dress that covers your rump properly. If you can't wear a skirt without tugging it down or pulling it out of your crotch constantly. It makes you look like you have St. Vitus Dance. Choose clothing that fits properly and comfortably. No one can see that size of the skirt you are wearing. If you are a size six trying to squeeze into a size two, you'll attract a lot more negative attention writhing around in your overly tight skirt than you would just buying the correct size.

So true. It isn't that the fashion is attractive, as it is whether it fits the person.
