Fashion Myths

All black makes you look thinner.

Black absorbs any light that goes near it, so it can actually make you seem bigger than you are. The cut of the clothes and the way they fit is far more important than the colour, if you are wearing ill fitting, badly cut clothes, it doesn't matter what colour they are, they'll still make you look bigger!

Dark colours hide the dirt.

I can tell you from personal experience that this is not true! Black shoes up every speck of dirt and dust just as much as white does!

Blue and green should never be seen without a colour in between.

I have never understood this one, why not?

It's all about making sure the shades complement each other, opt for navy if you are unsure.

Only skinny people can wear skinny jeans.

Pulling off skinny jeans is about balancing your proportions, if you are slightly bigger, wear them tucked into chunky boots or knee high heeled boots.

Redheads shouldn't wear red.

This is another absurd one; all you need to do is find the right shade for you. If you have a pale complexion, go for a bright, rich scarlet, if you have a slightly softer complexion opt for warmer brownish red like russet.

Wearing high heels gives you bunions.

There is absolutely no evidence for this, bunions are largely hereditary, so if you're going to get them, there's nothing you can do!

Flats are good for you.

Flat shoes offer you no support and can make you cling to your shoes with your toes. They also have very little distance or cushioning between your feet and the ground, this means that your joints will suffer the impact.

Older women can't wear short skirts. This has nothing to do with your age, it's about your legs, if you've got good legs, go for it!
