Fashion Tips for Plus Size Women

Crystal Sciarini
As a plus size woman myself I know how difficult finding the right outfit can be. Over the years I have learned some tricks to help hide my flaws. Many times the right outfit can help you look thinner and help get you the compliments you deserve.

The Tummy
The current fad is low rise, from jeans to shorts the low rise waistband is everywhere. However, very few women actually look good with a low rise waistband. If you are trying to camouflage your stomach you must avoid low rise waist bands. You will also want to avoid waistbands that have embroidery or other decorations these will only draw attention to your trouble spot.

Opt instead for skirts , wrap dresses, and boot cut jeans. A proper fit is important, the jeans need to fit without seam stress when sitting.

The Hips
Women with hips that they need to hide are in fashion heaven right now with the current fad of tunic tops. The tunic top is flattering to almost any body type and size. It is still advisible to avoid large prints and pastel colors though.

Button down shirts are an excellent way to cover hips. The shirt should fall to just below the hips and not be snug. Avoid clingy materials like polyester, stick with cotton instead. Button downs that have small slits at the hips are perfect for breaking up the hip area giving the illusion of smaller hips.

The Thighs
Hiding the thighs is a bit tricky, but can be done. Thunder thighs will be a thing of the past if you avoid pants and fitted skirts. Pair an a-line or full skirt with a shirt that falls to mid hip. Those with that desire to hide their thighs have the advantage of wearing bright, bold tops that most plus size women should avoid. Bulky belts and necklaces will look great with a button down cotton shirt and are currently easy and inexpensive to find.

The Butt
It seems that big butts are a fashion statement these days. If you disagree and you have a butt you need to hide here are some plus size fashion tips for you.

Even when I wore a size 10 I had a "healthy" butt and found it difficult to wear certain outfits. The best camouflage for the butt is to break up the surface. Try wearing long shirts and sweaters that fall just past the curvature of the butt. Avoid wearing fitted straight skirts these will only enhance and draw attention the buttocks.
