1. Wear different colors on the top and bottom. The different colors help to break up your height. Try matching a fuchsia blouse with a black skirt for a vibrant look. Instead of wearing a suit to work, try separate, but coordinating blouses and jackets and skirts and pants. Try a patterned top with a solid color bottom, or, a patterned bottom with a solid color top is also flattering if done right. For a causal look, wear your hair down, braided, or up in a ponytail and do your make-up as you would for everyday excursions. For a more formal, professional look, wear your hair up and do your make-up conservatively.
2. Try high-waisted styles. A high waist will make a long torso look more in proportion to the rest of your body. When done correctly, the high-waisted look gives you an instant hourglass figure. Also, try a belt placed higher than the waist to help break up your middle. Depending upon the look you are going for will determine what to do with your hair and make-up. Don't be afraid to experiment with different hairstyles until you find something you like that is flattering. The same goes for make-up. Try different colors that you might not usually wear. You may be pleasantly surprised.
3. If you want a single color look, try mixing textures. Try placing a knit top with beading or sequins over a smooth, shiny bottom. For a more causal look, try the beaded evening top (10915) (in black) from Formal Gallery over some black pants, or maybe jeans. For some tall women, single color outfits can be tricky, but don't let that stop you from trying it!
4. Try dresses that emphasize your curves. This applies whether you are lean, or curvy. As Andrea Grant, a writer for the website TheFashionSpot.com, says, anything baggy will just make you look bigger. Keep this in mind if you are curvier. If you are leaner, try dresses with an A-line shape. Experiment with your hair and make-up to find something you like that works with your ensemble.
The thing to remember when trying to find clothes if you are women of stature, is don't be afraid to try different things to see what looks flattering on you. And while you may be inclined to wear only flats, heels are not out of the question!
