Fashionably Fantastic: Allover Print Hoodies

M. Maiero
One definitive trend this winter season has been the allover print hoodie. To sum it up, it's simply a hooded sweatshirt with a unique print (or colorway) that covers the entire garment, all over. There are a number of brands that have adopted the allover print hoodie, and only a few have succeeded at doing so.

One brand in particular is Artful Dodger, out of New York. Artful Dodger is a staple in the fashion industry, successfully creating clothing for what has come to be known as the underground hip hop scene. While much of the brand's clothing is undeniably tacky and overdone, the brand still strives to create some of the most outgoing and innovative designs; Artful Dodger's allover print hoodies remain at the top of any fashion list. While these hoodies are each unique in their own way, they all seem to convey the same message: rough exterior/ gentle interior. The allover print hoodies sometimes depict skulls, etc., although the skulls come in a variety of colors-pink, yellow, etc. Call it tongue-in-cheek gangsta, I don't know. Shoppers won't find an Artful Dodger vendor better than karmaloop.com or digitalgravel.com.

Another brand worth mentioning in the arena of the allover print hoodie would have to be Grn Apple Tree. Grn Apple Tree clothing, while new to the proverbial game, has definitely flipped its lid. The allover print hoodies that come from this brand are surely coveted and sell out pretty much as quickly as they are woven. These allover prints come in a variety of patterns: floral, boxed, even denim! But be careful, those floral prints might just have you walking the streets looking like you're wearing your grandma's couch.

And what would a list of allover print hoodie designers be without mentioning the one-and-only Lifted Research Group, otherwise known as LRG. LRG clothing has been around for decades and has some exclusive customers, including (but not limited to) Kanye West and Raekwon tha Chef, two hip hop moguls. LRG's take on the allover print hoodie is somewhat more conservative, however, and, although the brand's items are all relatively timeless, the prints aren't necessarily timeless themselves; LRG's allover print hoodies border on either the bland or the bodacious-both of which might just get a brother slapped up.

Although I've made mention of hip hop in relation to each of these aforementioned brands, it's not without some admission to the trend; while these allover print hoodies are directed towards the hip hop demographic, in no way are they limited to it. With the correct judgement (and the correct paycheck-don't expect to pay less than 70 dollars for any of these hoodies) a customer of any background across the U.S. could easily pull of this winter season accessory.
