Fast and Easy Microwave Soy Wax Tarts

Ambrosia Jefferson
Everyone loves a great scented home, but candles are not for everyone. If you have small children or curious pets, the open flame can be dangerous. You do not need to fear however, if you have a cup warmer or a candle warmer and a little holder you can have scented soy wax tarts or melts. Follow these easy steps to making your very own.

Materials Needed:

Mini cupcake pan

Soy wax (Michaels or any craft store will have this)

Fragrance oil scent choice (Michaels or any craft store will have this as well)

Pyrex container

Candy thermometer

Mixing Stick (any thing for mixing will work)

Directions:

Making Soy wax melts is very easy. You can of course use a stovetop method as well, but these directions will be on the Microwave version that is fast, easy and perfect to do with the little ones on even the snowiest of days.

Measure out the amount of Soy wax you wish to use into the Pyrex measuring cup, a good starting point is usually to the 1-cup line to start.

Place the Pyre container into the microwave. Place the Microwave on Medium heat and set the time for 5 minutes. This is usually enough time to melt the wax if it is not enough time place it back into the microwave until all the wax is melted.

Once the Wax is melted, use your candy thermometer to test the temperature. The ideal temperature for adding fragrance to soy wax is 180 degrees Celsius this allows the fragrance and the wax to bond properly and gives the best possible scent when melting your tarts. If the temperature is to low place it in the microwave again until it is the proper temperature, if to hot leave it out to cool.

When the wax is 180 degrees Celsius add your fragrance oil and mix it in very well. I find that mixing for 1-2 minutes is the best time for a full blend.

Pour the wax into your mini cup cake pan. You can use other containers but I find this is the most desirable shape and size for the tarts.

Now you just need to wait for the wax to fully harden. For best curing of the scent with the wax, I recommend leaving the wax to sit for 24 hours.

After the wax has set and hardened its time to release the wax from the molds. The best way to do this is to insert the tin into the freezer 5 minutes will do. Remove the pan from the Freezer and turn it upside down.

Store your tarts in a brown paper bag or another container that will keep them safe and keep them away from heat.

There you have it. A fun and easy project that almost any age group can enjoy. All that is left to do at the end of making the tarts is of course to enjoy them. If you follow the directions each of your little scented tarts should give you anywhere from 12-24 hours of pleasurable scent over any room. Enjoy!
