Fast and Furious: A Review

Jason Cooley
I'm not here to do a review of the movie itself but of the situation around it.

I wasn't a big fan of the first Fast and Furious movie but I refused to watch the other movies that followed stripped of its original cast and labeled with a Fast and Furious tag. The biggest insult movie fans can be dealt is when the movie companies have a popular title and decide to make a sequel by cutting costs and throwing some generic faces in as the leading roles (Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift) as if we are so in love with the title that we don't care about anything else.

For some reason Vin Diesel, who has the look of a legitimate action star, has a knack for being replaced with guys that are just laughable as action "heroes" such as tubby awkward Ice cube in "xXx: State in the Union." What genius came up with that nugget? I'm imagining that Vin diesel must have gotten a swollen head and suddenly demanded a lot of money for future films so Hollywood would not give in therefore humbling Vin Diesel to the point of doing "The Pacifier". With Vin coming off The Pacifier and The Fast and the Furious coming off of Tokyo Drift I'm guessing the two reunited with their heads down trying to hide their desperation for each other while eagerly trying to re-patch the situation. And from that we get the real Fast and the Furious 2.

Like I said I wasn't a big fan of the first one as it was a way over the top, roll your eyes, out of the realm of possibility action movie, but never the less it was pretty cool seeing the previews of Paul Walker and Vin Diesel together after the way the first movie ended. I surely won't be seeing this movie in theaters but later on down the road I'll probably pull it off of the $1 rental shelf and watch it on a day with nothing else to do.

So with Vin Diesel and The Fast and the Furious making up will we see the people from XXX do the same or will we be expected to watch Cedric the Entertainer's tubby butt running around for 90 minutes inevitably saving the word? Who knows how low Hollywood has the bar set for us? One thing is for sure and that is if they do try to play that game again they won't be getting my money.

I can't write this in the third person... I just can't. To do so would make me feel like a douche big enough to accommodate Madonna. My articles are a change of pace from what you can expect anywhere else. M...  View profile
