No doubt, with the economy struggling, you are thinking about cheap and inexpensive Halloween Costumes that you can through together yourself. Here are few DIY Costumes that are as cute as they are easy to fix.

Abstract Costume

What you need:

Paint

Cardboard

Paint Brush

White shirt

White Pants or dark pants

Directions:

The point of this costume is to allow the child to express their creativity through the costume. To start, lay out the cardboard. This is what you will stand on as you create your designs. Let your child's imagination blossom with the cardboard and clothing. If you want to create a Princess Costume, you will want to cut out a crown from the cardboard and let your child decorate their princess crown. Use colors like gold's, pinks, and mauves. For her clothing, take the white shirt and white pants or white skirt, and allow her to pain on the clothing. This can be wonderful mother daughter or father daughter adventure.

The crown can be painted any color your child wants. Let this paint dry for 24 hours. To attach the crown, take glue to glue both sides together. Let this dry for at least 24 hours before letting your child wear the Princess Crown Halloween Costume.

Let the paints dry completely before putting the clothes on. If she would like a Princess fan, take a piece of cardboard and cut out an oval shape. Now paint the fan in an abstract way using several colors of her choosing. Try to blend the colors of her outfit with the colors of the fan.

Once the entire outfit is dry, she can put on the shirt and pants/skirt, the crown, and Princess Fan.

Colorful Jelly Bean Costume

What you need:

Body suit or Tight Clothes

Smaller Balloons

Safety Pins

Construction Paper

Paints or Magic Markers

Ribbon

Directions:

Blow up balloons. You want the balloons to be fairly small as they will be jelly beans. They need to be big enough that they can cover the body. Medium size small balloons will be perfect for this Halloween costume.

Take safety pins and attach the balloon to the shirt by pinning to the end of the balloon. You should have enough room to attach directly to the clothing. Alternate colors and keep the balloons close to each other. Once you've attached all of the balloons on the shirt and pants, now you are ready for the child to put the clothes on. Put on an under shirt so the pins do not rub up against the child.

To finish off the Jelly Bean Costume, write on the construction paper, "I am a Jelly Bean." This is not only cute but people will smile as soon as they see your child. Take a long piece of ribbon and attach with tape to the construction paper. Place this around your child's neck so people know exactly what type of Halloween costume she is wearing.

Candy Cane Halloween Costume

What you need:

White Shirt

White Pants

Red Ribbon

Licorice

Directions:

This is a fun Halloween Costume that any child will like. Some kids enjoy dressing up like holidays making this the perfect and easy costume. To start, make sure that your child likes the shirt and pants will be wearing. The clothing should be fitted as we want them to look like a candy cane.

You can make this Candy Cane Costume two different ways. It depends how hands on your child wants to be with this project.

Candy Cane Costume #1

Have the child put on the white shirt and pants. Next, you want to use red ribbon and start rolling the red ribbon up the child's legs. Once you reach the top of their leg, you want to attach with a safety pen. Do the same with the other leg. Now work the red ribbon around their stomach and up to their neck where you will finish off. Attach with a safety pin.

Candy Cane Costume #2

This is a fun way to create a candy cane. For this, you will need red duct tape. Use the duct tape to make a candy cane pattern over the entire outfit. Start at the pant legs and work your way up. The pattern should move from one pant leg to the other making a slow pattern up and around the body. By the time you are finished, your child will be decked out to look just like a candy cane.

The red Licorice is for either costume. Give the child a little baggie full of red licorice. They can hand out candy to each home they visit for Halloween candy. Or, they have a ready supply of licorice to eat throughout the Halloween evening.
