"Faster" Movie Review

Derek Odom
The girlfriend and I watched this movie the other night and boy, was I impressed! Faster (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1433108/) is non-stop testosterone and aggression from the first scene until the very last. I'm not normally one for the "one man killing machine" type flicks, but this one really floated my boat, so to speak.

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) plays a man who is being released from prison after doing a dime (ten years) for a bank robbery gone wrong. He's an all-business, no mess around type of guy with one goal in his life, and that's to kill everyone associated with the murder of his brother. The guy makes Rambo seem like a sissy. They really did his character well, and I couldn't get enough.

Billy Bob Thornton plays a drug-addicted, about to retire and very crooked cop. Honestly, that's an interesting enough story just by itself. Add in that he's hunting Johnson's character with some "inside" leads and you have yourself a real whopper of a flick. He played the part well, and once you see just how jacked up his life actually is, you don't know whether to feel for him or hate him. Good stuff.

For you old car buffs, Johnson drives around in a sweet-looking old Chevelle that is, well, really fast. As if that wasn't enough, a professional assassin is also hunting Johnson and drives a wicked Ferrari. The scenes in the movie in which the two encounter each other were nothing less than stellar in this author's opinion. My eyes left my head and became glued to the screen.

The end is a huge twist that I didn't see coming, and involves more testosterone and guns. I'm not one to spoil stuff like that in my reviews, but suffice it to say it's worth watching. If you like movies such as The Mechanic, the original Fast and Furious or Felon, then Faster is right up your alley, and then some. It comes highly recommended to all adrenaline/testosterone junkies out there.
