Faster Than a Midnight Train to Georgia, or North Carolina, Scott McCreery and Lauren Alaina Sign Deal with Mercury Nashville

The Label's Newest Signees Are Soaring!

TRESA PATTERSON
With the excitement of a new baby announcement, Mercury Nashville ran full-page ads, welcoming Scott McCreery and Lauren Alaina to their label , and thanking country radio for "a great start." You'd say so, too, considering that McCreery has already had 173,000 downloads of his very first song, "Love You This Big," and Alaina's "love you forever mama" anthem, "Like My Mother Does" is hardly lagging with 124,000 of its own. That's not a bad shower gift, a slight better than the confetti shower the two shared at the "American Idol" finale .

McCreery's love song broke the Country chart record for best debut by a new artist, popping up at 32, and Lauren's leaping to 49. The two teamed up for tantalizing duets on "American Honey" while they were in the top eight on Idol, and had another amazing moment in harmony for their version of Randy Travis' composition, "I Told You So," later famously sang with country princess, Carrie Underwood. Judging from fan message boards, the demand for double harmonies goes deep, so the pair probably should be plotting a duets project at the same time he and she are selecting songs for their independent projects. Success, celebrity, and a spotlight like they've never experienced comes along with that Idol title and exposure, but no one promised anything about sleeping or eating. They've got studio time and pickers pending! Guess you'll need to have your sweet tea and fried chicken delivered, and order enough for everyone!

Oh I'm so happy for them! They seem like such nice kids and of course are very talented. I'm surprised though that Scotty's single sold more than Lauren's. I liked Lauren's better. I wish both of them lots of luck.

I am not surprised by this at all. The sky is most definitely the limit for them as individual and duet singers.

Hi Tresa, I'm slowly trying to get back to "normal" the funeral was yesterday and the rest of the family is leaving today. I'm sorry I fell so far behind - slowly catching up again. I didn't even know about Scotty and Lauren. Good news, cheers :)
