Chicago, IL 60655
United States of America
This casual contemporary eatery, formerly located at 3256 W. 111th, has just moved into its current digs at
3031 W. 111th, previously the site of its polar opposite. an establishment by the name of Vegetarian Express. Rumor has it they moved to the North side because of the lack of interest on Chicago's mostly 'meat eating'' South Side. They haven't been missed!
Would you like fries with that?
The new restaurant, about 3x larger than its previous location, now includes a spacious outdoor dining area for people who like to eat outside in the Summer. The restaurant's menu includes (David Berg) hot dogs, ranging from $1.95 to $3.25, 5 to 10 oz. burger's ranging from $4.50 to $6.25, to my all-time favorite, a generous charbroiled chicken sandwich with a choice of BBQ, teryaki or cajun sauce, and a nice selection of BBQ pork, including ribs and their famous pork chop sandwich ($6.75) All orders include a generous serving of hand-cut fries, but will be omitted on request.. To round out the menu, there are a variety of shakes starting at around $3.00, butter pecan is the most popular and also my personal favorite, soups are mostly offered in the winter and for the lighter eater's there's an individual garden salad.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream!
They've also added a full-service ice cream (Breyer's) station due to the frequent requests of their loyal regulars because of an absence of ice cream stores in the area. According to the owner, Dan of Beverly, " there are times when the orders for cones ($1.25) outnumber the ones for the hotdogs, there no. 1 bestseller", especially on hot muggy days. Business is up 50% over last year, even in this sluggish economy. Dan attributes this to providing great customer service, quality food and co-workers who share his vision of "giving customer's a fair value for their hard-earned money". Apparently his hard work has paid off, judging by the crowds at his restaurant recently on a usually slow Monday night.
Although he originally had a partner by the name of Tom,, he now handles the restaurant entirely by himself. He has proved to be a tireless worker and can be seen there most nights of the week, usually the first one there in the morning and the last one to leave. He just recently opened his place up on Sunday and will be offering it for rent for special occasions, like graduation parties and showers, etc. Off-site catering is also available. Music is in the works too!
So if you're ever in the Mt. Greenwood area on Chicago's SW side then head on over to Fat Tommy's!
