Fatal Inertia EX Review (PS3): Great Racing Game for Mindless Fun

Fatal Inertia EX is a racing game released on the Playstation 3 and developed by Koei. Racing games are those games that just keep on giving, when they're good at least. So how does Fatal Inertia measure up? Let's take a look.

Story : The game doesn't really have a story to speak of, but that's just as well because it's a racing game. Maybe if you watched Fast and Furious before playing this game, you could imagine it had one. Or Vanishing Point. But anyway, the point of buying a racing game is the game play so don't worry about the story.

Graphics : The graphics are quite good and hold up well to other racing games. Some of the detail in the environments aren't too fleshed out but it's still very forgivable as you probably won't have time to focus on those anyway. The detail on the ships is really quite good and they all move very well.

Sound : The sound on a racing game is very important and I'm happy to say that in this game, it delivers quite well. The intense high speed racing sounds really pump you up and get you into the game. The music is also fairly decent. It's not unobtrusive but isn't a total throwaway either. Very cool.

Game play : The most important thing in any racing game are the controls. And in this game, they are excellent. Sensitive and very responsive while not being too loose. The learning curve in this game isn't very high. If you've played any racing game before at all you should pick up and understand this one instantly. The customization for the ships is really cool too and there's a large variety of colors to choose from. There's a large assortment of weapons you can equip on your ships and they really give the game play a whole new level of fun. Tons of strategy can be incorporated into your race from these alone.

Re playability : The multi player aspect of this game is excellent, which makes replaying it loads of fun. You can race up to 7 other people, and it's an absolute blast to do over and over and over again. Especially with weapons, you can really have fun racing while blasting the other ships to smithereens.

Overall : 7/10. A really great racing game that delivers if you're just looking for some mindless fun. Exceptional multi player.
