Fat-Burning Diet Plan for Women

Kristen May
Any diet targeted toward burning fat will be focused on two main goals: boosting metabolism and cutting calories. These are two ways that women can encourage their bodies to burn away fat during the day instead of using shorter-term energy sources from eating. The most important thing to remember on any diet plan is to be consistent, and work in habits that can be maintained in the long term.

Fat-Burning Diet Tip: Count Calories

Any woman looking to go on a fat-burning diet plan needs to count her calories. This is because the body will first use up the energy that is most accessible, from the food eaten that day. Only after those supplies are exhausted will it turn to using stored energy, or fat. Therefore, in order to burn fat, women need to burn through all the calories they eat during the day as well. Most women burn about 2000 calories per day, so diets should attempt to cut calorie intake to about 1500 so the body will have to burn fat every day to get the last 500 calories.

Counting calories doesn't have to be done to extreme detail, but women should be aware of how many calories are in the food they are eating. This can be accomplished by reading nutrition facts on packaged foods, and by using a simple chart of calories contained in fruits and vegetables (typically very low numbers, but they can make a difference).

Fat-Burning Diet Tip: Eat at Home

Portion control and limiting calories both go out the window when women begin to eat out at restaurants, which makes it impossible to maintain a fat-burning diet. For this reason, as much as possible, eat meals at home. This gives you far more control over what you are eating and knowing how many calories it contains.

Fat-Burning Diet Tip: Eat Breakfast

The sooner in the day you start eating, the sooner your body knows to switch into calorie-burning (and therefore, fat-burning) mode. Eating a reasonably sized and healthy breakfast will encourage the body to burn calories all day, not only after dinner, when it is about to shut things down to go to sleep anyway.

Fat-Burning Diet Tip: Eat Metabolism-Boosting Foods

In addition to choosing foods that are low in processed sugars and saturated fats (and unsaturated fats, for that matter), there are a number of foods that will encourage your body's metabolism to increase and burn more calories and fat during the day. These foods include, but are not limited to: hot peppers, water, soup, and fresh fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, apples, and grapefruits.
