Father Pfleger: What was He Thinking?

A previous story of mine refers to the comments Father Pfleger made as well as a link to the video on YouTube. Since that time, Father Pfleger has apologized.

Father Michael Pfleger, the Chicago Catholic priest who mocked Hillary Clinton, must have had an out of body experience. Either that or he forgot who and where he was. I am not going to go into the Rev. Wright issue, because I do not know enough about him or his church and their beliefs. I have no right to say that is no way for him to be preaching. I was raised Catholic and went to a Catholic school so I know what the congregation and Catholic Church, as a whole, expect from a priest.

When I first heard the stories of what Father Pfleger said and showed the video, I thought there was no way he could possibly be a priest. First of all, I have never seen a priest give a sermon in that manner. I also have never been to a Catholic service in Chicago, so maybe, just maybe it is drastically different than what I am used to in a church. Anyway, even though he was not in a Catholic Church, as a priest, he still represents the Catholic Church. I was also a little confused because news sources refer to him as Reverend Pfleger and I have never heard a priest called Reverend. I have only heard priests referred to as Father; however he indeed is a priest.

What bothers me is that this man is a priest, so he should act like a priest. The type of mocking and ranting he was doing, was the opposite of how a priest should act. Maybe he is in the wrong denomination. Anyone who believes in God and claims to be a Christian should be removing him or herself from situations like that one. Not only was he ranting, but he had the congregation laughing as well. What is he teaching the congregation? If the person providing the sermon is disrespectful, how can the congregation be expected to act otherwise.

Father Pfleger, needs to take a good hard look at himself and find out who he really is and where he really belongs. No Christian should be preaching a hateful message or teaching mockery. Whether he should be or not, in his role he is seen as a "leader" of the church. My concern is where he is leading the congregation.

I say a resounding "AMEN" to this one!! If you are in a pulpit or any kind, you should be preaching a message of "Love one another" not a message of hate and mockery.
    Great article!!
