Father's Day

Devrie Wise
A little hand pulls the edge
of your flannel shirt.
You shuttle him to the moon
and slide him over the curve
of your shoulders.

His big sister sqeezes
into your atmoshpere
by floating up on her tip-toes
and pinching her voice
between father and son.

She's nine years his senior,
and you've know her for two.

You scoop both baby
and sister into the warm
safe shelter of laughter,
moons, stars, and guidance.

She's no intruder,
between father and son,
and for her,
you're not intruder
between mother and daughter.

We are family,
and we thank you.
