Father's Day Brunch in NYC 2011

Jesse Schmitt
While the world may be your oyster in the Big Apple, sometimes you just want a decent brunch! What ever is the individual to do? There are plenty of great, big, huge, spectacular brunches going on over the Father's Day holiday. If you're looking for something a little more low-key, consider the following destinations. Make sure to check ahead with all the places though; it would be horrible to show up and find out that everyone had the same idea that you did for Father's Day.

Eat at Jo's: One of Lower Manhattan's favorites, Eat at Jo's is just on the other side of East Houston Street and may seem a little chaotic, but once you get inside you can have a great brunch for your dad and really show him you care. Eat at Jo's has pretty standard brunch fare as well as more involved items. Consider their buttermilk ricotta pancakes with warm cherry maple syrup or their steak and eggs which comes with grilled shell steak, poached eggs, Hollandaise, and potato hash. Delicious!

Alloro NYC: If your tastes and temperaments are a little more Upper East Side than downtown, check out Alloro for 2011 Father's Day brunch. Opening at noon on June 19th this fusion-Italian eatery will be having all kinds of fun on Father's Day. While they haven't posted their menu for Father's Day brunch just yet, fans of the Upper East Side eatery know they will do something fun. Head on up and visit with Gina and Salvatore and let them sweep you away for an Italian Father's Day brunch menu you won't soon forget.

Balthazar Restaurant: For a more upscale brunch experience on Father's Day (or any Sunday for that matter) we head back down to SoHo and Spring Street's famous Balthazar Restaurant. Balthazar serves all kinds of decadent dishes including brioche French toast, smoked salmon with creme fraiche, chicken paillard with salad and parmesan cheese, homemade fettuccini, and even beef stroganoff with buttered noodles! Balthazar is one of those places you need to call ahead, make a reservation, and show up early anyway. The extra work is well worth it in the end though.

80 Spring Street 212-343-1274.

Wherever you decide to dine with dear old dad for Father's Day he'll likely just be glad to have you around. So check out one of these three places or come up with something all your own and you and dad can have a great Father's Day 2011!
