Father's Day gifts for Cleveland dads

Sandy Mitchell
Father's Day is June 20 this year. If you're looking for a gift for your Cleveland dad, consider something specific to his hometown. Here are a few ideas:

Sports tickets

Cleveland sports fans are long-suffering, tenacious and enthusiastic. Despite repeated disappointments, the city's die-hard fans still support multiple major league sports franchises. Tickets to a Cleveland Indians or Cleveland Browns game make great presents. Plus, the events are something you can enjoy together. Cheering on the team transcends generations. Looking for something less expensive? Try tickets to the Cleveland City Stars (soccer) or Lake Erie Monsters (hockey).

Museum membership

Cleveland's collection of museums runs the gamut from classical to modern, and from art to music to history. Give your dad the opportunity to explore one of the city's museums for a year at his leisure. Choices include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, University Circle's Western Reserve Historical Society (for Northeast Ohio history as well as antique cars and planes), the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, or the Cleveland Museum of Art (admission to the permanent collection is free, but membership gives free admission to temporary exhibits and special events).

Fishing or hunting license

Northeast Ohio offers abundant opportunities for hunting and fishing. In addition to Lake Erie, the area boasts many inland lakes and rivers, and is known for its walleye and perch fishing. In the fall, sportsmen enjoy hunting deer, turkeys and a variety of game birds. Make fishing or hunting easier for Dad this year by buying his fishing or hunting license for him.

Restaurant gift certificates

Sampling the plethora of unique places to eat in Greater Cleveland is one of the joys of living in the area. Yes, Cleveland has its chain restaurants, but it's the locally owned and ethnic eateries that give the city its character and charm. The Cleveland Independents, a consortium of more than 90 local, independent restaurants, offers gift certificates that can be used at any member restaurant. It's a great way to give Dad a choice.
