The 17th of June is Father's Day. It will be hear before we know it. We will all be looking for that very unique gift for that very special father in our lives. But have you ever wondered when father's day started and why?

I will tell you the story of Father's Day, where is started and why. Below that I have listed some very unique gift ideas.

The very first celebration was on July 5, 1908 in Fairmont, West Virginia. At the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South, Grace Golden Clayton came up with the idea to celebrate fathers after there was a deadly mine explosion in the town of Monongah, West Virginia in December of 1907. The explosion killed 361 men, which many were fathers and recent immigrants from Italy. Grace suggested this to the pastor of the church.

Another individual by the name of Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd was the person to establish the celebration of Father's Day. She was born in Creston, Washington. Her father was a Civil War veteran and a single parent that was raising six children in Spokane, Washington. His wife had died in childbirth with there sixth child. Mrs. Dodd got the idea from Anna Jarvis, who established Mother's Day. Mrs. Dodd wanted Father's Day to be celebrated on June 5th, the anniversary of her father's death. But she didn't give the organizers enough time to make the arrangements, so the celebration was pushed back to the third Sunday of June. The first June Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington.

President Calvin Coolidge recommended Father's Day to be a national holiday on 1924. President Lyndon B. Johnson made Father's Day a holiday and to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June but was not officially recognized until 1972, during President Richard Nixon term.

When people think of a gift for their father the normal things pop in their head, a tie, tools, fishing pole, and golf balls. Every year poor father's all across America get the same boring thing.

If you think of what Mothers get for Mother's day, you can come up with some unique gift ideas for your father. What are one-thing mothers like, it's gift baskets. So instead of giving your father one little same boring item put together a gift basket with several items from one field of interest, for example:

Create a Food Basket filled with cheeses, root beer, beef sausage, smoked and dried beef, honey mustard, crackers, and a cheese knife.

Wine Basket filled with several bottles of his favorite wine, wine bottle toppers, and wine bottle opener. You can find all sorts of wine accessories at your local wine store.

If your father enjoys beer, how about a beer basket filled with several different kinds of beer from around the globe and beer napkins with beer saying.

Baseball Gift Basket filled with sports snacks like, popcorn, and tortilla chips, nacho cheese sauce, and, mixed nuts. You can also add miniature baseball and bat.

Golf Gift Basket filled with chocolates in the shape of golf balls, golf towel, golf balls, golf tees, tee time and fee paid certificate and other accessories that have the golf them in mind.

Fishing Gift Basket filled with some kind of fishing apparel, several types of fishing lures, snacks for when he is out on the lake. One great thing for the fisherman would be a gift certificate for a fully paid fishing trip.

How about the Southwestern Food Basket filled with salsas, spreads and sauces, tortilla chips and margarita mix.

If your father is a coffee drinker, how about the Coffee Gift Basket. Fill it with all different types of coffee flavors, cappuccino flavors, cookies, brownies, and different coffee beans so he can grind his own flavors.

The Grill Gift Basket filled with different types of BBQ sauces and marinades, grilling utensils, chiefs hat and cooking glove.

This is for the father that has everything, there's nothing left to buy. Bet you he would never think of spending a day at a spa. The Spa Gift Basket filled with a grooming kit, man's body wrap, back massager, and slippers. Just make sure you purchase men bath accessories, you don't want him coming out smelling like a women.
