Father's Day Sunday Dinner and Table scape

This Father's Day instead of taking him out to Brunch, make Dad a special dinner that is satisfying and has much more thought put into it than making reservations. He will enjoy and remember this Father's Day dinner for a very long time. From his favorite foods to the table setting that is themed to his likes, he is sure to enjoy a nice dinner with his family. Use these great ideas for a menu and creating a great table setting.

First, decide which theme you would like to go with. It may be sports related, like football, basketball, baseball, hockey, golf, etc. If he is more of a couch potato type, then you can go with this humorous theme. Be creative, imaginative and most importantly, have fun. Father's Day is a day for showing your love and appreciation and there is nothing better than a nice cooked dinner to do just that. It is something personal and it is a great way to spend the day showing Dad just how much you love him this Father's Day.

Here are a few ideas that may get your imagination going.

Sportsman Theme (football, baseball, etc.)

Cheeseburger, with Fixings (Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, Onions, Bacon, etc.)
Ballpark Style Hot Dogs on Rolls, with Mustard and Sweet Relish, add chopped onions or sauerkraut if desired.
French Fries
Home cooked slices, deep-fried in 375 degree oil till they float. Serve slightly salted
Chili with Cheese
Grab the recipe from your favorite cookbook or on line website. Add shredded cheddar.
Nachos Supreme Platter
Chips, cheese and all the toppings he likes. Make a nice arrangement on the platter.
Place peanuts and popcorn out around the house for snacks.

Dessert can be a cake shaped like the ball of what sport he likes, or if it is easier for you, you can make a basic rectangular cake and create a field. By visiting the following link, you can find how to and ideas on how to create and decorate a sports themed cake. http://www.lisashea.com/lisabase/desserts/art5712.html

The table setting for the Sports theme, should be done with his favorite sports team. Gather a few items from around the house that he may already have, or try to locate some things at the local sports store. A basic color table cover starts the process. Using items that are the same two colors as his team of choice, set the table using napkins, drink cups and even colored utensils. Add a few of his teams' treasures around the table. Drape banners across the table, set a baseball or two on the table if its baseball. The ideas are endless. Bring the table to life with his favorite team. Check your local dollar store for confetti and candy that fits your theme. You will be surprised at the things you can find.

NASCAR Theme

Tailgating and NASCAR racing go together. At any given race you will see people grilling and having a picnic right at their vehicle. You can create this right at home with just a little bit of imagination and creativity. Use Dad's favorite race car driver and go from there. If it is a nice sunny day, eat at a picnic table.

Grilled Steak Sticks. Thread strips of thin marinated steaks onto skewers and grill to desired doneness.
Loaded Potato Skins. Bake potatoes, then cut in half lengthwise, scoop out leaving 1/4" of potato. Stuff with cheese and bacon. Serve with sour cream and fresh snipped chives.
Green Bean Casserole. Mix 2 cans of green beans with 1 can Campbell's Cream of Mushroom condensed milk, add 1/2 can of milk, salt and pepper and dash of worchestire sauce. Mix 1 cup of French's Fried Onions into mix. Layer another cup of onions on top of casserole and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Serve hot.
Fresh Fruit Cups Cube up his favorite fresh fruits and place in a bowl. Add a few blueberries for color and serve with fruit dip of choice.

Dessert can be a simple rectangular cake, decorated like the NASCAR logo. Serve with Ice cream.

The NASCAR table setting is easy. Purchase a few yards of black and white checked fabric for a table cover. Put his favorite driver trinkets all around the table. A centerpiece made of a green flag, a yellow flag and a checkered flag looks great. You can easily make these if you are unable to purchase them. Place little checkered racing flags into the fruit cups using toothpicks. You can place a few race cars around the house and have a recorded race from the past playing. You will be able to find race car themed party stuff at your local stores. Everything with his favorite driver is best.

Couch Potato Dad

If your Dad just prefers to spend his time in his recliner with the remote then this is the theme for him. Be sure to let him watch his shows all day long. New movies that he has wanted are always a nice gift. Remotes and fake Oscar awards make great decorations for this theme.

Loaded Baked Potato Bar
Serve huge baked russets and arrange every topping you can think of for a baked potato. Butter, sour cream, chives, bacon, melted cheese, shredded cheese, chili, broccoli, salsa, olives, packaged toppers, etc.

Serve Grilled Steaks like Delmonico or porterhouse or Grilled Tuna Steak
Garden Salad is a great accompaniment. Fresh greens, cucumber, tomato, red onion, and croutons. Items from the loaded potato bar will get used in this too.

Dessert can be a cake shaped and decorated like a TV or remote. Use your imagination for fun ideas.

The table setting for a couch potato is fun. Cover the table with any solid color cover. Place remotes around the table and use place mats that you have made to look like TV sets. Construction paper and a glue stick work great for these place mats. Pile up some of his favorite DVD movies into the center, zig zagging them. Then place a foil star centerpiece on top, having the foil stars going over the pile of DVD movies. The ideas are endless. Serve popcorn and boxed candy for munchies. Serve him soda and let him watch whatever he wants for the day.

There are many more themes to choose from for Dad this Father's Day. Here are some more ideas you can have fun with.

Golf
Bowling
BBQ
Fisherman
Hunter
Poker
Motorcycles

Remember to just have fun. That is what makes the day great and memorable.

Happy Father's Day to all.
