Father's Day Poem

I'm driving slowly, safely and within the speed limit at all times,
Yes, I'm driving your old Lincoln, it keeps you in my mind
I see your hands on the wheel and I send you a prayer
You're with me any place I go, in my heart you're always near.
Alex is wearing Wallabees, the shoes you always wore
I hear them and, it sounds like you shuffling on my floor.
You come to me when when I see a feather,
I think of you at the beach in wild ,stormy weather.
I know you're there when I go to the shore
And miss you being with me even more.
The grandsons pick feathers up and say "Your Dad is near."
They say, "See ,he's with you." and for me it brings a tear.
Your smile is on my grandson's face as I watch him play
I'll miss you Dad, on Father's Day but I miss you every day.

My Dad passed away unexpectedly in 1996. We spent every Wed nesday and Saturday at the Jersey shore. He'd wake me at 6:00 am and off we'd go. We'd walk the boardwalk and have some lunch and head home. He'd pick up feathers as we walked.Sometimes he'd get my daughter up as well since she went to College near there. He loved it when the weather was horrendous. He'd walk out on the jetty and the waves woud be crashing . He'd always get his socks and shoes soaked. After he died feathers would appear everywhere I went, in strange places, no matter which way the wind was blowing, indoors,outdoors, on my shoulder when I'd take off my coat, a feather would be there.
