Father's Day Poem

Dami Owoyele
You call out to me,
and I heed at once,
not out of fear of you,
but because of the reverence
I have for the venerable being
I call father.

You hold my hand,
and I lean on you,
for I am at ease.
Even if the fiends of this
world endeavor to subdue me,
I shall not fret.
For my angelic sentinel is
by my side.

You guide me through the
worldly lures, thus my naive mind
is unharmed and my moral unscathed.
For you are a sage with vast wisdom
and experience, that shields me
from all morbid temptations.

You, the man of the house,
my dear mother's spouse;
by your sweat we live.
For your sacrifice earns
our indulgence and extravagance.

You are God's gift to me,
and I can know no other,
for your place in my life
cannot be fit by another.
Your matchless character
is no doubt a sole endowment
upon my frail self.

Some dare compare you to
mother; for they forget that
the same sturdy hands that
envelopes me wraps around her
and the shelter conferred on me
she shares as well.
You are the almighty armor
that keep the entire household
out of arms way.

Your Love.
The peak of it all.
The foundation of my existence.
My source of inspiration.
The breath I live on.

Our dynasty, I will keep valid,
by passing on my forefathers'
past and belief; noteworthy, my
father's, to the ones yet to be born.

I laud all men worthy to be call Father with this Father's Day poem
