Father's Day Tribute to Dad - Poem of a Lifetime

Dad

JUNEANN REED
My Dad, an Iowa farmer
A lover of the land,
Chose my loving mother
In '41 he took her hand.

The War was the news
He was one who stayed and farmed,
With dairy cows, small machinery
This is how he was armed.

He listened and he learned
He worked so very much,
He supported my Mother
With his gentle, loving touch.

He found some special time
To hold me on his knee,
We played "horsie"
Then there were another three.

My Dad, he was a social guy
Was active in our church,
When asked to help and serve
Said " yes" without a lurch.

His seed corn awards provided trips
So he and Mom could see,
That people of the world
Are the same as you and me.

He listened and he helped us
Allowed us to make mistakes,
But gave us suggestions, and
Enjoyed many birthday cakes.

Today my Dad is ninety one
Yes, disease has slowed him down,
Challenge made him more loving and caring
This special Dad, he is my own.

Dear Dad you've given me so much
My kids and grandkids too,
We're all so very grateful
Please know - we all love you!

  • Dads change throughout a lifetime, but also stay the same.
  • My Dad.
  • Dads give so much.
Dads, no matter where they live in the world, mostly work hard to provide love and a firm foundation for their kids. Thanks to our Dads!
