Antoine the fat
At the ivories sat
Tinkling and pounding
With blues and rock sounding
Washed out of his home
By Katrina the bitch
Who left friends and neighbors
Without n'ary a stitch
And exercised no selection
About who was who
Or which was which;
You could easily tell
That one big domino
Never folded or fell.
Strains of Blueberry Hill
Echo in the halls of memory
Of the now aged still -
Hurricaned and battered
His soulful roundness
Was what mattered
As the crippled FEMA
Banged and clattered
Through the wasteland
Of neighborhoods
That had been battered;
The Fat Man plays on.
It would take far more
Than a town-flooding storm
To render him gone.
Not just one of the rest,
Antoine's person
And music
Leave us all blessed.

Post a CommentOne example of the spirit and fortitude of Katrina's survivors. I worked in insurance then and was on catastrophe duty for Katrina. The celebrities get most of the spotlight here, but they speak for the thousands of people who showed courage and spirit in the face of disaster.
Enduring. Great article.
Fats was (and is) a true legend in music. Thanks for this tribute.
I love Fats! You made my day, thanks!
He certainly is a fun entertainer!
Nicely done!
I'll always love Fats, and music is the heart and soul of N'Orleans!
Glad to hear he is still twistin' away. Great piece...I love his music.
Chuck Berry is still licking in St. Louis. He still performs at least once a month.
Great job Laura Everly
