The Fatz Cafe is located at 2610 West Stone Drive in Kingsport Tennessee, located conveniently near both Walmart and Lowes. When Pam and I arrived around 8pm or so the place was packed, yet we were seated quickly. The lights were somewhat subdued and the place was buzzing with happy people talking, laughing and more importantly, eating! Our server, Chad, quickly came by, introduced himself and took our drink orders as well as our appetizer request. In short order we had our drinks as well as some piping hot poppyseed rolls. The bread was so fresh and hot, I suspected it came directly from the oven to my ravenous mouth. I almost burned my fingers buttering the rolls as I was too hungry to wait. I did remember to prepare my dear wife's rolls first, so my manners were still working.
After the rolls, Chad delivered our appetizer selection, the three cheese spinach dip along with a colorful assortment of corn chips. Now spinach and cheese dip is available almost everywhere these days, but the blue, red and yellow corn chips added both a festive and flavorful touch. By the time we finished the dip, Chad had our salads ready, all the while monitoring our drinks and bringing refills as needed. I'm a very thirsty guy by nature, so the fact that Chad was able to keep the glasses full spoke well about his observation and serving prowess. My dear Pamela lingered a trifle long over her salad, meaning she didn't wolf it down anywhere near as fast as I did. I did say I was hungry, right? Even an extra helping of the poppyseed rolls didn't take the edge off my hunger. They sure were good, though!
The moment that my sweetie finished her salad, Chad was ready with the main course, two orders of Calabash chicken tenders, a baked potato for my lady and a sweet potato for me. Now the folks at Fatz Cafe won't tell you what goes into their chicken, but it is good. Hungry as I was, I couldn't finish the huge helping of chicken, nor could my wonderful wife. We wound up taking the rest home though, because it was just too good to waste!
Now Chad did a wonderful job of serving. Since I'm trying to cut sugar in my diet I had requested unsweetened tea and no cinnamon or sugar on my sweet potato. When Chad mistakenly brought sweet tea and a sugared potato to our table, he caught the mistake himself without me saying a word and quickly corrected things. No one is perfect, but the ability to quickly rectify errors is a major accomplishment these days. Fatz Cafe is lucky to have a worker like Chad in their employment!
