Some toys are acceptable for the dog to play with when he is alone while some toys require the owner's supervision. It is the owner's responsibility to recognize which toys need supervision based on the toy itself and the dog's personality.
It is best to select toys that are made of durable non-toxic materials.
The purpose of some dog toys is to be entertaining and/or challenging, thereby reducing boredom and separation anxiety while the owner is away. Some toys are meant for interactive play between the dog and his owner, such as retrieving or a game of tug of war. Some toys squeak or make other noises. Some chew toys are intended to reduce plaque buildup on teeth and massage the gums.
Here are some favorite dog toys.
Favorite Dog Toys - Wiggly Giggly Ball
The Wiggly Giggly Ball produces a strange giggling type noise. When it is thrown or rolled, it usually travels in irregular, random directions. It is a very entertaining, interactive toy. Some dogs may enjoy pushing the ball around the room with their paws, trying to get it to make the giggling noise. Some dogs may retrieve the ball back to the owner to throw again. Since this toy is not meant as a chew toy, it is recommended that the owner should always supervise their dog with this ball. The ball is available in two sizes, 7 inches and 4 ½ inches in diameter.
Favorite Dog Toys - Everlasting Treat Ball
The Everlasting Treat Ball is an example of a toy that is meant to entertain and challenge the dog. This sturdy ball is designed with two openings for the attached treats to be locked into place. It wobbles around the floor as the dog attempts to get to the treats.
Favorite Dog Toys - Chilly Bone
The Chilly Bone is an interesting toy. This toy is made of a non-toxic durable material that absorbs water. The toy should be soaked in water and then frozen. It is cool and invigorating chew toy for the dog on a hot summer day.
Favorite Dog Toys - Squirt Ball
The Squirt Ball is fascinating to the dog who like to play with water. This toy should be filled with cold water. Every time the dog takes hold of the ball in his mouth, water is squirted at the dog. This exciting and unusual toy is designed for outdoor play. Owner supervison is advised. It is 4 ½ inches in diameter and comes in assorted colors.
Although most dogs are intrigued and excited by unusual and/or strange sounding toys, some dogs are frightened by them. The dog owner should select the right type of toys to fit the personality of their dog.

Great article! I can't seem to find anything my chihuahua will play with by himself, though I do leave the dirty laundry in a pile in the hall so that he can have fun burrowing, hee hee. I'll have to get some of these toys for my pit bull though--he can certainly entertain himself with a toy for hours :)
The pet will be playing with these things for hours...
Thanks for this, Sunshine!
Good ideas.
I want to get the chilly bones for our dogs. I didn't know about them. Thanks for these excellent recommendations. :-)
