Cheer on Your Favorite Team and These Favorite Dishes

Jennifer Martino Trosclair
I enjoy watching an outstanding football game, and it is a must during Super Bowl. Guys, on the other hand, are addicted year long. Their main concerns? The opponent. The spread. Injured players. Women's main concerns? What football menu am I going to create that will keep these guys as interested as they are in the game. So as the guys at your football party produce stats about their favorite players and teams, here's some ideas on how to produce your favorite football menu items:

Bacon Breadsticks Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
1-lb package of thin-sliced bacon
1 package of sesame breadsticks
1 large container of grated Parmesan/Romano cheese

INSTRUCTIONS:
Pour the grated cheese into a rectangular casserole dish

Wrap the bacon slices tightly around the breadsticks

Roll the wrapped breadstick in the cheese and shake off the excess

After placing the breadticks on a microwave-safe dish, microwave on high for 1 to 3 minutes

Remove and roll through the cheese again

For great presentation and easily handling, stand the sticks up in a cup or container

Serve with marina sauce if you prefer

The next menu involves a crockpot, which is perfect during football season. You can start your meal, then relax and mingle with your guests while they watch the game.

Crockpot Jambalaya

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound chicken breasts or tenders, boneless, cut in 1-inch cubes

8 to 12 ounces smoked sausage, sliced

1/2 cup chopped onion

1 green bell pepper, chopped

1 large can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 cup chicken broth

1/2 cup dry white wine

2 teaspoons dried leaf oregano

2 teaspoons dried parsley

2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 pound shrimp, cooked

2 cups white rice, cooked

INSTRUCTIONS:
Combine chicken, sausage, chopped bell pepper, and chopped onion in slow cooker. Add tomatoes, chicken broth, wine, oregano, parsley, Cajun seasoning, and pepper; stir gently. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours. About 30 to 45 minutes before eating, add cooked shrimp and hot cooked rice; heat thoroughly.
Serves 8.

Now that football season is quickly approaching, not only will your family and friends be over to cheer on your favorite team, but they're sure to cheer on your dishes as well!
