Favorite Sports Songs

Nicole Saunders
For decades, if not centuries, sports have served as a favorite American pastime. But, it is not just the sports themselves, but the songs that accompany them that make sporting events so thrilling. In celebration of the role that songs play in the fun and excitement of sports, I have compiled a list of my favorite sports songs. Ready, set, sing!

1. We Will Rock You by Keiko Lee

-I placed this ditty at the top of the list for its recognizable factor. No matter if you're a sports aficionado or not, hearing this song should put you in the mood to watch or play sports.

2. Take Me Out to the Ball Game by Jack Norworth

-This one is simply an American classic

3. We Are the Champions by Queen

-I call this the perfect gloating song after a tough and nasty game

4. Welcome to the Jungle by Guns 'n Roses

-If you ever forget how down 'n dirty sports can be, this song will remind you

5. Take the Shot by Ruben Studdard

-Though most people are unfamiliar with this one, I find it perfect for the world of sports. It equates basketball with an encounter of love. Oh, how appropriate that comparison is!

6. Remember the Name by Fort Minor

-Pretty self-explanatory. This song works especially for teams who have seen better times in the past. Always respect the greats

7. Let's Get Ready to Rumble by Michael Buffer

-Though it's not exactly a song, it is a classic and a favorite phrase of mine. No matter what event you are attending, this one should always be served with a side of cockiness and maybe even a chest-bump

8. Celebration by Kool and the Gang

-Only play this one if your team wins

9. Y.M.C.A by the Village People

-While listening to this song may throw you into a fit of nostalgia, it's still very relevant

10. Whoop! (There it is) by Tag Team

-This one was made for b-ball. Great dancing song!

So, that's my list. Next time you attend a sporting event, take a boom box or even an MP3 player with speakers and blast these tunes. You will be the bell of the sports ball!
