Favorite Summer Hobby:Swimming

Danita Sims
My favorite summer hobby is to swim. During the fall and winter months, I take the time to protect my skin and very coarse hair from the harsh cold windy days. The summer, however, is the time to let it all hang out! I love to buy my swim suits and sandals during the winter season when their typically on sale and pack them away for the coming hot summer days. Sometimes, I do not buy anything and simply take my summer wardrobe from the year before to the cleaners. I check out my neighborhood pool's schedule, stock up on frozen fruit for homemade smoothies and some frozen finger foods for snacking. It is during the spring that I am sure to stock up on fluffy beach towels, swim caps, and protective shampoo for my summer swimming escapades. During the spring months, I try out different hair styles to wear during the summer for low maintenance and protection from the chlorine in the pool.

There are times when I look at destination spots for family and friends to join me on. Such as Wisconsin Dells or Six Flags water parks. These can be a bit pricey unless you save up for them and buy season passes for multiple trips. I also like to take the time to visit at least one new place every year. This can be as close as the town a few miles over or a family's spot a few states over. Either way, my question for the summer is always, "Is there a pool?"

I take the time to stretch prior to swimming as to not cramp up. Sometimes while in the pool, I will play water games or swim laps. Swimming is a great exercise that's easier on joints and a great way to cut a few pounds off the waistline. A great swimming suit is key to looking good and feeling comfortable while in the water. Since I learned to swim at an early age, I am able to enjoy water-play without the fear of drowning. I am also ready for the deep end at anytime. Swimming is also great for the elderly for heart rate and weight control. An early morning swim can be relaxing and very rejuvenating.

By the time June comes around, I am set for long days of summer swimming. The only thing to solidify is who's coming with me?
