Only someone who's been living in a cave doesn't know about Family Guy. This show was dropped from FOX not once, but twice, and due to an overwhelming demand was brought back to the FOX network for a third time and syndicated. The Family Guy cartoon follows the dysfunctional life of a New England family who has a love hate relationship with each other.
You've got Stewie the evil baby, Brian the cultured, talking dog, Meg and Chris the two kids who don't fit in, Lois the housewife with a wild side, and Peter the big doofus father of the family. The creator of Family Guy, Seth McFarlane, couldn't have put together a more complete formula of characters. The creative minds behind this show are completely out of control --- the come up with the most hair brained scenarios that normal people just would never conceive of even in their wildest dreams.
Maybe I love this show because it deals with very real issues, just in an over the top way that makes you break out in fits in laughter. Plus, dysfunctional families everywhere can relate to the madness. Maybe I love it because of the creative writing. Whatever it is, Family Guy is definitely the best show on TV right now, hands down.
The writing on Two and a Half Men is absolutely amazing. These writers really know what they're doing; they are blessed to possess the purest form of wit I've seen, probably in my entire lifetime.
Besides the writing, the show's creators chose the perfect actors to play these characters. I didn't realize it until recently, but the character Alan, played by Jon Cryer, is a huge reason why I watch the show. His mannerisms, wise cracks, and anal behavior are just hilarious to me. Also, Angus Jones, the little boy that plays Jake (not so little anymore) makes me laugh whenever he talks about food or pops up unexpectedly in a grown folks conversation.
Finally, I never knew I would find myself watching a television show that starred Charlie Sheen. Even as I sit right now, I can't think of a show I've seen Charlie Sheen in before, honest. But now he's one of my favorite actors in Two and a Half Men .
#3 Frasier & Golden Girls
I had to list two television shows as my # 3 choices because they are truly a tie, and they happen to come on back to back on late night television. I am a night owl, so I catch just about every episode, and I can watch them over and over. Frasier and his snobby brother remind me of another favorite television show of mine out of England, Keeping Up Appearances , with their overly snobbish ways and the hilarious scenarios. Golden Girls is of course an all time favorite that will probably never leave my list. Whenever Rose gets angry I'm in stitches. Dorothy's lines are always perfectly timed and on point, and the way Sophia gets on Blanche for being a slut makes you wonder how Blanche never caught a case for assaulting an old woman! Again, a show where the writers are pure genius.
As a television lover, this list is no where near comprehensive, but I had absolutely no problem deciding which would be my top three. As long as these shows are playing on TV, I am a happy camper.

Post a CommentJade, you really know good writing! These are my favorite shows too-hands down, especially Frasier, Family Guy and Golden Girls. The writing is utterly brilliant and timely. I've only seen Two and a Half Men a couple of times, but I'll have to check it out more often.
