These Six Books Are Fun for Everyone in the Family

Kim Brown
With Thanksgiving approaching fast, many of us are looking for good books to share with our children for the holiday. Here I have listed six of my families favorite Thanksgiving books for kids..

Best Classic Children's Thanksgiving book
Clifford's Thanksgiving Visit by Norman Bridwell, Ages 4-8

No list of best children's thanksgiving books would be complete without a giant dog book. I remember reading Clifford books when I was young and my kids loved them. something about the idea of a giant dog who is red and smart is just plain fun. In this book Emily Elizabeth, Clifford's owner leaves town for Thanksgiving, and Clifford takes off to visit his mom. There are lots of adventures along the way that even include a train and a parade. In the end Clifford and Emily Elizabeth know what they are thankful for.

Clever Page Design
Happy Thanksgiving, Biscuit! By Alyssa Satin Capucilli, Illustrator Pat Schories, Ages 4-8

Biscuit is an adorable puppy who tries to help his owner prepare for Thanksgiving but manages to wind up making a mess! The best part of this book is the flaps which the child has to lift to see what biscuit has done!

Best Family Depiction in a Thanksgiving book for kids
The Night Before Thanksgiving By Natasha Wing, Illustrated by Tammie Lyon, Ages 4-8

This is a clever book that rhymes in the style of The Night Before Christmas. This story tells about a family and their preparations for Thanksgiving. Nicely done, I am sure it depicts the way many families celebrate the holiday.

Best Board Book
The Turkey Ball By David Steinberg, Illustrated By Liz Conrad, Ages 1-5

This board book tells a cute tale of Turkeys attending a ball. The text rhymes and is fun to read aloud and the illustrations are imaginative with rich colors. This book is just fun to read. It's a good first book for toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy it also.

Best Book for Older Kids
Turkeys, Pilgrims and Indian Corn: The Story of the Thanksgiving Symbols By Edna Barth Illustrated by Ursula Arndt, Ages 9-12

This is an engaging history of Thanksgiving. The author writes in a way children can understand yet she packs the book full of facts that many people might not know. Divided into chapters for easy reading, this book is sure to intrigue your older kids.

Stickers!
Maisy's Thanksgiving Sticker Book By Lucy Cousins

This book is fun and interactive. There are about 30 colorful stickers that young readers can match to different points in the story. Once the stickers are distributed through the book kids have a "masterpiece" that they helped to create. Fun for all ages.
