The River Walk in Sacramento, California Leads to Historic District
We stayed at the Best Western Sandman hotel in Sacramento, California and it had its own private gate onto the river walk. This was a bit of luck for us because it meant we could stroll along the path birding and reach many of the tourist sites - historic Sacramento, the paddle boat Delta Queen with ease.
Shoshone Falls is Hidden in Twin Falls, Idaho But a Great River Walk
The river walk at Shoshone Falls isn't as centrally located for tourists as in many towns, but it does provide a lovely stroll and a chance to see wildlife, agricultural fields, Shoshone Falls, and the local idiots that changed access to the area to limit it to local homeowners. Hopefully, the town has done some construction to allow more visitors to reach the river walk with ease.
Natural River Walk in Reno, Nevada is a Great Escape from Gambling
Reno, Nevada has a plain river walk that connects to several parks and there are many chances to see wildlife along the way including red fox, squirrel and raccoon. It's a nice change of pace from the gambling gaming areas and good exercise. Locals fish from the banks of the river. My favorite place to stay in Reno is the Sands Hotel because their swimming pool is terrific and there are many golf courses in town. Nearby Pyramid Lake is worth a drive but if you plan to spend any time you need to get a permit.
Popular Tourist Center Albuquerque, New Mexico's River Walk is Slightly Out if Town
Albuquerque's river walk is slightly out of town at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park. The nature center has many bird feeders and indoor and outdoor blinds for wildlife viewing. Near the center, a small native plant garden attracts lost of wildlife. The trails wind through oak forest to reach the river and there are many views along the way. It was quiet and peaceful in the park after we got past all of the fences and the police chasing someone. Albuquerque is one of my favorite towns now, with nearby Petroglyphs State Park offering three separate locations with trails, and a downtown area with great food and shops and lots of color for taking pictures. We stayed at the Best Western Rio Grande in Albuquerque and loved the pool.
Spokane, Washington is One of Many State River Walks
Washington has numerous river walks in towns that include Bellevue, Renton, Snohomish, Richland, Yakima, but Spokane's river walk has been made into a special part at the heart of the town. Near the really beautiful waterfalls, some of the older factory buildings have been turned into shops and restaurants. Some of the nicer hotels are located in the same area. Its fun to walk, skate or bike on any of them and great exercise. Spokane has some very beautiful golf courses, also.

You've done some really cool river walks. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I have been on the River Walk in Reno back in the 90's when we used to live in the area. It is a nice break from the main hub of casinos even though it is right there in the heart of it.
