The Best Word Games on Facebook Can Be Fun and Challenging

Marie Anne St. Jean
Like word games? Facebook has dozens of word game applications to choose from. Play your favorite word games alone, or invite Facebook family and friends to a challenge.

You can find word games by typing the name of the game in the search box on your Facebook page. If there are a number of results that pop up with that word in it, click on the tab on that page that says 'applications' to narrow it down to games only.

Favorite Word Games on Facebook - Scrabble

The Scrabble application on Facebook is much the same as the game you remember playing on family game night. With more than 400,000 members that use the application, Scrabble is one of the most popular word games on Facebook. You can start a game of Scrabble with one or more friends and each take their turn at their leisure. Each player will get a notification when it is their turn to play; the game isn't 'live' with a requirement to finish at one sitting.

Favorite Word Games on Facebook - Lexulous

The Lexulous application on Facebook is very similar to Scrabble. The playing board is set up much the same and, like Scrabble, each player takes their turn when it is convenient for them to play. The players don't have to be logged on at the same time to play the game to completion at one sitting, although you may do so if you choose.

Favorite Word Games on Facebook - Word Twist (developed by Zynga)

Did you always turn first to the Word Jumble puzzle in the newspaper? If so, join the over 600,000 Facebook members that enjoy the Word Twist application. Word Twist gives you the option to play a solo game (called laddermode) or to challenge up to four friends to beat your score. The rules to play Word Twist are simple - you are shown a group of 6 or 7 letters (your choice) and you unscramble them to make as many words of three or more letters as you can in the 2-minute timeframe allotted. Figuring out the longest word brings a 25 point bonus!

Favorite Word Games on Facebook - Scramble (developed by Zynga)

The Scramble application's almost 1-million players make it one of the most popular word games on Facebook. As with Word Twist, you can play Scramble alone or challenge a friend, and you may also join a live game with other players. The Scramble board is made of up of a 4x4 or 5x5 grid of letters (your choice). The option of the game is to make as many words of three or more adjoining letters as you can in a 3-minute time limit. You may use your mouse to select the letters on your monitor or type the letters using your keyboard. I find the latter to be much quicker, but the choice is yours.

My favorites of the games mentioned here are Scramble and Word Twist. Look me up on Facebook - I'm always game for a challenge!

Have you guys tried Bananagrams on Facebook? It's pretty great...kinda like a free-form Scrabble, and has more depth to it than some of the other games mentioned. Definitely worth checking out!

Love word games. I could easily spend a lot of time doing that, instead of writing. ;-)
