FBI BanditTracker Program Posts Fugitives for You to Help Them Capture
The FBI is Using the Web to Fight Crime
BanditTracker is a program that the FBI has been working on for about three years now. It first debuted in 2007 through a trial run. Dallas, Texas was chosen as the location to test the program out for the first time. Success was initially shown and resulted in the FBI launching pilot programs in Chicago, Little Rock, Atlanta, and Indianapolis. The trial run was conducted and studied by the people behind the program, Spectrum Management.
Since the results were so positive the FBI and Spectrum Management decided to announce the launching of BanditTracker Northeast. This is a much larger scale version of the program. How it works is that the Atlantic branch will first post the images, descriptions, and any other information relating to the person and crime just committed. This information will come from only New York and New Jersey currently. It should be noted that there are plans to include more major cities as time goes by.
Taking a closer look at the website yourself could prove to be a lot of fun. The website currently has about three dozen robberies listed on it. You have the ability to read up on each robbery in great detail. I happened to take a full tour of the site and am happy to report that it is both easily navigational and interesting enough to keep you there for almost an hour. There was also a slide show of the most recent crimes on the very top of the home page.
The FBI hopes to have continued success with BanditTracker. It is their ultimate goal to have the program up and running in every major city in the United States. Another future goal is to make it so every local police agency will have their own satellite version of the program. BanditTracker could be the future to catching criminals faster than ever before and is definitely worth the look.
