The organic pastures dairy company located in Fresno California markets this organic pastures raw cream. This cream maybe contaminated with an organism called Listeria Monocytogenes, which can sometimes cause the fatal disease Listeriosis in certain groups of people. These groups are young children, the elderly, and other people who have weakened immune systems.
Healthy people may only suffer with short term effects such as a high fever, bad headache, vomiting, and diarrhea. However, pregnant women could miscarry or have stillbirths.
In early September, the California Department of Food and Agriculture found the bad bacteria when it was doing normal samplings of the products. An order was then issued to pull the raw cream from the shelves until producers were in place to stop these bacteria. Organic Pastures Dairy Company complied with the orders and took the precautions to eliminate the bacteria. The California Department of Food and Agriculture then gave the OK for the company to continue producing the raw cream. The product is back on retail shelves in California and by phone around the world.
This organic pastures raw cream was sold in stores through California but was also available worldwide through the phone. This is a worldwide warning to anyone who bought this raw cream for the Organic Pastures Dairy Company.
This is not pasteurized which means it had not gone through the pasteurization process. When a dairy-based produce is pasteurized, the product is heated to a set temperature for a specific time. This process will kill the bacteria, which can cause an illness. There are many harmful bacteria found within organic or natural foods.
Many people who enjoy natural foods do not like their food items pasteurized, so many of the natural products can contain these harmful bacteria. Bacteria were a problem for many years until Louis Pasture came up with a process that kills most of the harmful bacteria within our foods. With the emergence of these organic natural foods, pasteurization is a process that just dies not fir in.
The FDA advices people who have consumed this Organic Pastures Raw cream and who have had any ill effects to consult their personal doctors. The FDA says that no illnesses have been reported as of yet.
