Fear

Glenda Glayzer
I am so tired of experiencing fear.
All around me I see a world
Filled with self-assured people
Who always seem to choose
The right path.
Do they go home at night
And dissolve into a puddle of uncertainty?
Sometimes, I think I cling to my fear
As if it were a lifeline
Holding me in the mainstream.
Whatever controls us -
Whoever determines the hand we get to play this Game,
Dealt me a royal flush.
Yet I have the temerity
To stand trembling and complain that it isn't enough.
What unimaginable ingratitude!
What monumental egotism prompts me
To expect exemption
From reality.
