The fear can manifest itself differently depending on the person and degree of fear, but common factors are panic attacks, rapid heart beat, and a clammy feeling. These symptoms can intensify if the phobia is extreme. If you do experience such symptoms try to calm yourself by taking slow and deep breaths. Concentrate on something pleasant or distract yourself with a good book. Remember that you can work to control this fear.
There are different methods of treatment for such a fear. One method is offered by airports. This is a program offered where you will be with a group of people who also have a fear of flying. This program works in increments where you start by walking on the plane and sitting in for a certain time period. This time will increase as you become more comfortable. It is designed to increase your comfort level slowly at a level that suits your needs. It is also helpful because you are surrounded by a support group who are experiencing the same thing. You can support each other as you work through the program.
There are also books on this fear which will increase your knowledge about such a phobia. This will help you learn how to manage your fear. Visit your local book store and ask for a recommendation for such a book. Another important method is to see your doctor to discuss possible treatment methods. A doctor will be able to suggest a treatment method most suited to your needs and symptoms.
If you do experience such feelings about flying remember that you are not alone in this. Many people suffer from such a fear and many people can also conquer this fear. It may take time and hard work, and strength but it is possible. People experience this fear for different reasons and there are different factors that contribute to it. No factor is wrong, but you can consider these factors in your method of treatment. However, taking steps to conquer this fear can make you a stronger person and you can be proud of such an accomplishment. Not only that, but you will be able to enjoy travel again. You will be able to plan family vacations without worrying and stressing for weeks prior about the plane.
